There is no debate that can portray the Former Head of State and Former President of Nigeria in the person of President Muhammadu Buhari as a reformed Democrat owing to his military background and how he has exhibited the same in his first tenor as a Democratically elected President of Nigeria elected under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Lets Discus some trivial issues. President Buhari usurped the then President of Nigeria, Shagari, under a military coup because he felt that the said president was not doing the right thing.
On his ascension as military head of state, he introduced War against indiscipline which became tool for military rascallity, pushing Nigeria behind in the council of states and bring several sanctions from international bodies.
His policies pushed Nigeria lower on development scale causing a fall in the value of the Nigerian Naira. He was later ousted by his fellow at the military in the person of General Ibrahim Babangida who was not any different.
Fast Forward to 2015 when he was sworn in as the elected president of the federal republic of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari changed his name to President Muhammadu Buhari.
His speech showed his government is going top be independent from any interference by the statement, "I belong to no body, I belong to every body". He showed this by his constant fight against the National assembly whose leadership did not go according to his wish.
Fast Forward to 2019, President Buhari won a keenly contested election to defeat his closest opponent, Atiku Abubakar who was former Vice president of Nigeria and a major financier of President Buhari's first tenor. He made remarks how he was frustrated by the National Assembly who hadn't opposed him in any way except his appointment of some people under investigation as his members of council.
One would expect the president to see his new administration as an opportunity to serve his people as complains about his method of administration litters the net but he has chosen to use the second chance to right what went wrong in the constitution of leaderships of various parastatals and arms of government rather than going on a journey of discovery to find out why there were so much uproar against his government and hunger in the nation.
It might be too soon to judge, But the choices he makes and decisions he fails to make has already determined the direction of his new administration.
